Fisantekraal Golfing Community (FGC) celebrated the official launch of their social golf club at Fisantekraal sports field on Saturday 1 March 2014. This auspicious occasion was attended by DA MP Denise Robinson and proportionate representative councillor for the ward Cyril Mack.

Part of the festivities was to showcase the newly designed logo and corporate brands to the local community and distribute clothing to some of the needy residents. Mr Edward Kleinhans, founder member and captain of the club, had this to say about the occasion: “We want to make sure the people of Fisantekraal are aware of our existence and can easily recognise and associate with our emblem and corporate branding. I also want to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors Mr Fabian Oostendorp, owner and Managing Director of FLO Specialized Product Solutions and Mr Seymour Francis, General Manager of Lifestyle Direct Group SA in Durbanville, for making this event possible. Furthermore I also want to use this platform to acknowledge the management of Durbanville Golf Club, in particular Mr John Bold, for their unwavering support and goodwill towards us.”

The proceedings were then followed by DA MP Denise Robinson who handed over the clothes on behalf of Fisantekraal Golfing Community. In her address to the leadership of the club and Fisantekraal residents she praised FGC for their willingness, not only to share their talents, but also in giving back to the community in this fashion and drew on the biblical axiom: – “The more you give, the more you will receive”. She further emphasised the need for the youth to get involved in sports and refraining from using drugs. She further begged for the same initiatives to transpire in the community of Klipheuwel, where social needs may even be more pressing.

Before officially closing the festivities, Mr Fabian Oostendorp thanked the leadership of FGC for their efforts and unfailing involvement in the sport. He also agreed with MP Denise that the needs of Fisantekraal community and that of their neighbours are outweighing the funds available and that more must be done to help eradicate poverty and social ills that plague this community. He implored more businesses in the area of Durbanville to get involved in the social development of the areas in which they conduct their affairs.  The festivities came to an end when the MP and local community worker Elaine Hartzenberg distributed sweets and cool drinks to children in attendance.
